Boston, MA
Starting from the Northeast, if you haven’t had a little getaway, head out to Boston, MA. The historic district is sure to have something to catch your interest, like the Victorian-style Public Garden! Established in 1837 as the FIRST botanical garden in the U.S., take a stroll and have a picnic while taking in the beauty and admiring the swans. If it’s too cold for a picnic, there’s also ice skating at the pond! Known for some of the best seafood, Boston also offers Seafood Lovers tours and Harbor tours.
Aside from museums and historical sites, you can stay at the Hotel Commonwealth, a boutique hotel that’s close to venues and offers access to its own Panopticon Gallery, or the Mandarin Oriental, which has been awarded Forbes Five Stars for its luxury rooms and luxury wellness offerings.
Asheville, NC
If you didn’t get to visit before Hurricane Helene, Asheville, NC is now OPEN and ready for tourists! Luckily, the downtown Asheville area was largely untouched, meaning all of their shops, restaurants, galleries, and studios are welcoming visitors. With some areas still needing work, your visit contributes to the effort! In the middle of 8,000 acres of Blue Ridge Mountains, the Biltmore Estate is ready to offer access to their award-winning winery, orchid-filled Conservatory, and historic gardens. Known as the Largest Home in America, take a tour and learn about the 250-room home and how its history and surrounding wildlife have been preserved since 1889. For those needing a little bit of a thrill, check out some of the ghost tours offered by Haunted Asheville!
Ann Arbor, MI
In the Midwest, head to Ann Arbor, Michigan. West of Detroit (another great Michigan getaway spot), Ann Arbor satisfies scientifically curious minds. The Matthei Botanical Gardens joins with the University of Michigan to work with the community toward creating an environment for research, sustainability, and bicultural diversity. From February through April, the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology is hosting an exhibit that focuses on the fascinating anatomy of leaves called “Under the Lens.” The Creature Conservancy is a non-profit wildlife education organization with a commitment to protecting wildlife “through education.” What’s a better way to create new experiences with the person you love than learning about the world around us and how to preserve it?
After learning about plants when you’re done with the Gardens, and seeing the lions and sloths at the Conservancy, unwind at the Blue Llama Jazz Club, voted the Best Romantic Restaurant in 2024. With a menu curated by the award-winning Chef JJ, and different jazz shows nearly every night, this is the hottest spot for dining and dancing. Spend the next day unwinding at the Oasis Hot Tub Gardens, where you can pick your own private hot tub setting that fits you and your partner’s interests!
Eureka Springs, AR
There’s nothing that says romance in the south like southern charm and hospitality. For this, you have to check out Eureka Springs, Arkansas. This quaint small town is nestled in the Ozarks, surrounded by beautiful landscapes, and full of treasures. Being a smaller city means truly finding unique wares at the local antique and artisan shops downtown. Experience delicious southern food at any of the chef-owned and run restaurants. Of course, Eureka Springs gets its fame from the stunning Crescent Hotel and Spa—the perfect place to unwind after taking a tour of this 1886 mountaintop resort! For the more daring couples, spice it up with a ghost tour! Eureka Springs is also home to the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, where you can spend the night in one of their several tree houses, take an open air tram tour, and admire the rescued Big Cats while learning how to end the exotic animal trade! Their site includes packages for romantic getaways, as well
Sedona, AZ
For a completely different experience, Sedona, Arizona is our Southwest getaway pick! Tourists come from all over the world to take in the views of Sedona’s majestic rock formations and hike below the dizzying cliff sides along the West Fork Trail. The Tlaquepaque (pronounced T-la-keh-pah-keh) Shopping Village is one of the must-see places in Sedona. This arts and crafts village is nestled along the banks of Oak Creek and features traditional Mexican architecture, complete with stucco walls and cobble-stone walkways. Originally an artists’ community, this village is now home to over 50 specialty shops and art galleries, filled with one-of-kind sculptures, glass work, fine art paintings, ceramics, and more! Speaking of one-of-a-kind and romance: instead of giving your date a box of chocolates, take her to Chocolatree! This eatery offers a garden oasis, vegan and vegetarian, cooked and raw dining options, entirely 100% organic and homemade, as well as its own chocolate shop that features a large selection of handmade artisan chocolates.
Sun Valley, ID
Finally reaching the other end of the country, let’s talk about our pick for the West: Sun Valley, Idaho! After talking about it in one of our recent state features, we weren’t surprised to learn that there’s even more in Idaho that’s worth visiting. Stay at Knob Hill, one of Sun Valley’s boutique hotels with large rooms, attentive staff, and also happens to feature one of the best restaurants in the area: The Grill at Knob Hill. Wake up and head to Maude’s for vintage goods and the best cup of espresso. Get cocktails at a rooftop pub called Warfield or check out the distillery for a tour. Check out the long list of outdoor activities, restaurants, and wineries at Visit Idaho’s “Getaway Game Plan” and tailor your trip just for you!
We at Interstate Signways wish you all a happy Valentine’s Day and hope you get to share a special treat with someone you love. Whether you decide to stay in and binge the latest season of your favorite show, or head to any of the destinations we mentioned across the U.S., remember that we made the signs that marked the way!
